First Try

When I walked out of the theater after seeing King Kong, I had the urge to write an essay, to systematically find the holes, the poor choices, and the outrages. I felt I had something to say about every aspect of the film: the casting, the lighting, the set design, the plot, the length… and I also felt that every reading of the film I could make, in terms of gender, race, politics, and sexuality were either irritating or outright offensive.

I love terrible movies, and I enjoy watching them, especially when I feel motivated by it to figure out exactly what sucked about it. Nonetheless, King Kong was one of the most difficult films I’ve ever tried to sit through. It was not only boring, but offensive to my senses. I will not get into these details just yet, but perhaps it will be one of the first films I try to talk about. (I will also specify here that I, of course, am referring to the 2005 re-make by Peter Jackson)

It is due in large part to King Kong that I decided to begin writing a film blog, as a way to document my arguments, as well as to push myself to practice something that I might try to use in my professional life. I don’t know… we’ll see how it goes! :)
